STORM CIARÁN

1 & 2 November, 2023

Dear Members, It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to tell you that the Geoff Reed Centre was extensively damaged during the storm last night - including a substantial part of the hall roof and the canteen roof. Thankfully the centre and surrounding area were empty and no one was injured. I am urging you to STAY AWAY from the site. The building is out of bounds and the area around it is unsafe.

The Centre will be out of action for some time but Council members are already working on plans for the way forward not only for the building but to keep table tennis play happening in Jersey. The fact that we are celebrating our Centenary this year shows the passion there is for the sport in Jersey and together we will find a way to keep playing. We will be back in touch again as soon as we can tell you more. In the meantime, we hope that you and your family are all safe.

Plat Douet take both the boys and girls titles, with St Peter’s B team as runners-up, in the Jersey Primary Inter-schools team tournament held at the Table Tennis Centre on Friday 6 October. Other schools taking part were Bel Royal and Rouge Bouillon.

Martin Tupper, JTTA head coach said “it was a great tournament and the players got better and better as the afternoon went on, with some very close matches. Hopefully the event will inspire some of the juniors to attend our ALTAIR beginner sessions. Due to the success of this tournament, the JTTA plan to make this an annual event. We are grateful for the support from JERSEY SPORT in promoting and assisting in the organisation of the event amongst the Primary Schools.”

Island Championships

22-27 March, 2024

What an incredible week at the Island Championships! Witnessing our resilient members take the stage with camaraderie, pride, and above all, passion, was truly inspiring. Our athletes showcased impeccable skills and are ready for more!

The CI Championships have proven that our athletes are unstoppable, overcoming adversity at every turn. Despite the setback of losing part of our roof at the Table Tennis Centre after the storm, our team has shown incredible resilience, training in four different locations in Jersey and even seeking opportunities to train abroad when visiting friends and family.

I couldn't be prouder of the dedication and hard work everyone has put in, and it's clear that our journey from strength to strength continues. As we look ahead to April's exciting events, the excitement is palpable! From the Primary Schools at Fort Regent from the 5th to the 7th, where our homegrown talents will shine, to the Inter insulars in Guernsey on the 26th and 27th, where our best athletes will face regional rivals, it's an action-packed month ahead.

Join us in celebrating the inclusive spirit of our sport. Whether you're cheering from the sidelines or stepping onto the court, there's a place for everyone in our table tennis community. Come and be part of the excitement, the camaraderie, and the thrill of competition!
